Patio Porn

The thing about being a Master Gardener in a wheelchair
is that a change in mobility shouldn't keep you from enjoying your favorite activities.
All we need here is a little careful planning.
The master bedroom in Mom's house has wonderful wide french doors that
 open to the back yard.
That sudden step that plummets about 2 1/2 feet needs to go though.
To wit, we need a deck she can access in the mornings for a little coffee,
and in the afternoons to harvest veggies and herbs for dinner.
All we need now is a design!
The space needs to have not just gardening, but dining and entertaining options.
Not to mention Mom is going to have to get used to containers.
She's a staunch in-the-ground kind of cultivator.
I'll have to turn her to the dark side.
We have compost over here too.
So let's take a gander at some inspiration from HGTV.

You know me and water features.
A pot fountain is an easy DIY option anyone can do,
and the sound alone lowers the sweltering summer heat.
I'd love to include a larger pool of water in the landscape plan,
but it's a little maintenance-intense.

Furnishings need to be kept on a budget...
which this isn't.
But you can afford plenty of charm with Goodwill scores
brightly painted and then sealed against the weather.
OR we could go in my favorite direction!
How easy would this streamlined pallet sectional be to assemble?

So what's your favorite idea?
And trust me, I'm open to other suggestions!

The earth moved. I know you'll come up with some brilliant budget solutions. I hope your mom will be comfortable in her new Darth Vader helmet...you will, of course, be spray painting it aqua and encrusting it with seashells.

I stumbled upon an easy container garden a few years ago. My sister gave me 3 large filing cabinets. So I removed the drawers, drilled a couple holes and spray painted them a bright color. I then put rocks, sand and soil. I grow the best and easiest tomotoes, snap peas and other things in them with minimal weeding and no bending. Maybe this would work for you. :)

I too long for a lush garden pond for our someday home but I know the work that goes with it since my mom has a huge one that is a beast to maintain.

That's why I'm digging the pond-less waterfalls and waterless ponds. The water runs into a gravel pool and is collected in a bucket that recirculates it back through...I think. Honestly it's like garden voodoo but even if it takes a bit more work to set up I think it would be worth it for the little to no effort maintenance.
