That Hurt My Ceilings

If you're new around here, you may have missed the episode where Sam almost got beaned by a chunk of falling ceiling in July. This took my living room to a new level of shabby chic, let me tell you. Nothing says classy like big holes in the plaster.
(Allison over at House of Hepworths has an excellent tutorial on replacing ceiling drywall, by the way.)
Of course, first I had to find out WHY this happened. It turns out we had a little leak action going on. So we addressed that and then tore the living room apart first thing Saturday morning.

Okay fine. Where do you keep YOUR wax logs off season?
First, you'll want to remove any other damaged ceiling. We only want to do this once. Straighten those jagged edges so the drywall will fit more easily.
I recommend a heavy canvas tarp so you don't completely ruin your brand new floors, no matter how much extra flooring you have stashed in a closet.
Try not to hit the dog with falling plaster.
Measure the opening.
Cut the drywall to fit. This is simple; score the paper side, and then just snap it off.
Using drywall screws, put that sucker up so it's NEVER coming back down. Suggested songs to sing during this process:
More Than a Ceiling
I Can't Fight This Ceiling Anymore
Ceilin' Groovey
Oh, What a Ceiling
You've Lost That Lovin' Ceiling
Hooked on a Ceiling
Itchy Twitchy Ceiling
What is This Ceiling
Ceiling This
Fill the gaps with mesh.
And mud it up. This is easy when the ceiling doesn't have to be smooth.
Next week, we'll do the texture.

Once More, With Ceiling.

Be quiet. No one makes you read this.

Have a leak spot ourselves that needs a fix up - might just get to it! (after a nap or two)

Sunny! So impressed by this great tutorial. If there is one thing I detest, it's drywalling a ceiling, but from my armchair you made it look halfway almost partially fun. Ish.

Oh man, I can't believe you did this yourself. I am a total DIY, and even if I had the tools for this, I don't think I would have done it. You are SUPER WOMAN, he he.. I saw your message Sunny, and just try again, I got the link up late, sorry, but I don't know what happened. Which project did you link up? Hope to see it on there, and THANK YOU SOOOO much for joining again, and remembering little ole me. Oh and your little TP, pumpkin tutorial was great, you should def add that to the **6 weeks 2 Spook ** party, and yeah it was a close call, whose cuter, kids or tp pumpkins, lol. Take care, Bella :)

Oh my goodness! A bit of my ceiling came down last week, due to my heater being replaced by 2 of the 3 Stooges. I now feel motivated to fix it myself instead of waiting on them. Also, I LOVE your punniness!

Our granddaughter is spending a semester in Spain, and was taking a weekend trip with friends. They stopped at a youth hostel one night during a driving rain. After they had stored all their belongings and were ready to leave for dinner, the ceiling collapsed right on their beds and water came rushing in! They managed to get their stuff before it got soaked. They got a refund, of course, and a new place to stay.
