Back in Black

So, here's a weird fact: when you have a fire, people drop off furniture.
If you'll drop off kitchen cabinets, we'll light up a sheep.
But I digress...
I'd JUST redone the boys' room, including gun metal gray loft beds with desks underneath, industrial steel bookcases, a repainted coffee table, acid green lounge chairs, a shag rug, and two IKEA highboy dressers. We're talking young man HEAVEN. Macho. A testosterone farm. Grunt.
I like IKEA furniture.
IKEA furniture does not like high pressure fireman's hoses.
Fell. A. Part.
Cue the donated This End Up dresser.
Say what you will, but I LIKE This End Up. I bought several pieces before we were married, and those suckers will be gracing first apartments. They are solid as all get out and well made.
And not one stinking piece we have is still the original color.
Okay, one is, but it has an aqua future.
Once we decided this lovely dresser needed a more black tie look, out it went.
We took it apart and gave it a seriously lazy, not putting our backs into it sanding, then went ballistic with the Rustoleum Gloss Black, and the wood soaked it up.
Just the drawer fronts of course.
And I sprayed the knobs in silver as long as I was painting the blue dresser's hardware.
And Viola! Or Voila. Kinda. Thom, your shirts are peeking out!

Anyway, shiny, glossy, with a whole new vibe and a brand new look for about $12!
My men treat the world like it's cast iron.
Destroy this.

Nicely done. It doesn't even look like the same dresser. I have to ask...are those snakes on the top of the dresser? I swear we need your teenagers to come over and help at Halloween with staging.

No, it's not snakes, it's this lamp:

Which they love.

I love black furniture. It can be glam, it can be masculine, its just always fits in perfectly. Will you please send all your painting help up to VA? We certainly could us it. I promise to feed them a big ole Southern meal :0)

I like it. Then again, I like all things black. And yeah, while This End Up may not be the trendist of furniture, it's STURDY and less destroyable by children.

Looks great! Love the black - I'm thinking of doing the same to some old dressers we have.

Your spray painting skills are legendary :)

I gave up on IKEA furniture, as it really is disposable. When I need furniture, I try to shop at my mother's house, as nowadays, you just can't find reasonable, nicely made furniture. The chest of drawers looks great!

I love furniture makeovers - they're so cheap and the results are amazing! You guys did great! :)

Black is always a great choice, just look in my closet! I think you did great job and your boys should be so proud of you. Thanks for commenting on my post.

Looks great Sunny...another excellent redo. What an amazing difference accomplished with just your imagination and a little spray paint. Super!

This is superb, and the not-putting-my-back-into-it sanding method always works for me!
