Rerouting Room Traffic

Although I liked the way the living room was set up, there was one problem: our cozy floor plan was not wheelchair accessible. With Mom in a chair for now, this meant she couldn't navigate by herself, and pulling her into the living room area for movie night blocked the entrance.
Even though the kids enjoyed having an excuse to climb over the back of the couch like orangutans, I opposed this behavior and knew we needed to carve some inches out in the bottle necked zones.
At 2 feet deep, this dresser behind the couch was great display space, a storage monster, and was perfect for setting beverages on, but it gobbled up real estate.
The bookcases in the Florida room jutted out only 12 inches and were nearly the same width as the dresser.
We switched the two and moved the sofa backwards 12 inches, gaining floor space in the living room .
This gave us the room and functionality we needed, and because we also lost an end table and lamp in the process, we moved the two curvy teal lamps to the back of the couch for reading light.
We also gained a charging station and a sunglass and wallet basket, the mail table moved here, and the shoe basket was repositioned, making this an all in one landing area.

I promise to give you a tour of the whole thing in a day or two. Right now, I have a stomach bug and think I'll curl back up. Just in case you were wondering where I've been.

Love the new arrangement. That used a lot more mental energy that I have right now. You're so clever. I'm sorry you are under the weather. Hope you feel better soon!

clearing up space in my apt (esp. when it's over with!!!) Your lucky to have the help you have with the heavy lifting. Feel better soon!
If ginger ale doesn't cut it try some ginger tea.

How perfect!! Isn't it amazing how much we end up loving things when we have to change them out of necessity?
