The Fifth Day of Catmas

One Fifth Day of Catmas your friends at Rehab took for you...
..........Five Kitteh Pics........
Molester Kitteh
(Named for her mad bread kneading skills while sitting on your lap.)

Ahem...on to a project!
Okay, we've given you gift ideas ranging from $6 to $2.
How about today we do one...
for FREE?
Gather your gear:
Old newspaper
Scissors
Twine, raffia, ribbon, or string
Wine. This is optional
Take a sheet of newspaper and lay it flat.
Tightly roll it from one corner to the other on the diagonal.
Engage the Minions in this. It's super easy.
Repeat several times.
Gratuitous glimpse of outrageously festive Christmas sweater.
Take two of the rolled up sheets and have a partner hold them firmly down at one end.
Start twisting them together.

Tightly.
Bring it up into a U and cross the ends.
Have your partner tie a length of twine into a bow to secure the top.
Loose corners of paper can just be ripped off to make them look neater.
And you, my friend, have made a fire starter!
(Note professional improvised photography lighting in the background.
See what I go through for you guys?)
I had red raffia, but Sammy cleaned the house for me, and it's now among the missing.
Now these are not only great for getting a good blaze going (they work like a charm!), but they also make excellent cushioning material in those packages you're shipping. That's a whole lot more useful than packing peanuts, huh?
Hit your recycling bin and cross another name off your list. Or just make some because they look cute in a basket or crate by the fireplace.

These are so cool! We're heading off to the windy city to visit best friends. I'm guessing a roaring fire and some wine are on the agenda. I need to get a few of these whipped up before we hit the road. Super timing!

They do look really cute by the fireplace! Love this idea and love FREE!

Very good use of worthless 'news'paper. I am thinking they might also be helpful, if folded over a gew times, in lighting the briquette chimney for the BBQ. Thanks.

This is one of my favorite ideas you've done! So practical, but purdy! And free, cannot be beat. Thanks for such a fab idea this late in the game.

we use shredded newspaper to get fires going but this is so much cuter than a stack of newspaper lying on the floor.. glad I found this.. thanks

*gnashes teeth in jealousy* I would LOVE to make firestarters if I had a real fireplace! Argh! Ours is gas and it doesn't even make heat! It's for SHOW! What kind of builder makes a heatless fireplace? Again, ARGH!

Sorry.

I love your firestarter idea and I may make a whole batch of them for my Mom (who has a ridiculously lovely REAL fireplace).

Have a wonderful New Year!

This is my first trip to your blog. Oh what I have missed. Our house was destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008. We sold as is and moved closer to my mom. This has also made me a horder, sorry collector, of other people's trash. Friends and neighbors call me when they see something good. I will continue to follow you.
