In Addition to That...

Okay, the raised bed is nice, but it looked a little...stranded. Lost. Isolated.
You get the idea.
So we took the new kit that the nice folks at Greenes Fence Company were kind enough to send us and added on to our original beds. With the parts we had left over from the last project and this one, we only needed 2 more boards to create a fourth bed.
Honestly, these kits assemble in minutes.
We then lined our beds with my favorite free weed blocker, old newspaper.
Just layer it about four or five sheets deep and wet it down thoroughly.
Add soil. We put our beds in a Z formation so that all of the plants were easily accessible.

We then took chunks of concrete that I had left from taking out an uneven walkway and surrounded the wooden structure with a large square.
This was a lot easier than last year's garden wall project.
I need to replant that...
More newspaper over the grass between the rocks and the beds...
...and then mulch over that.
Add decorative items and some slobber.

Along with veggies and herbs, we decided to add some flowers to brighten the area and make it a destination in the yard.
We chose my mother's favorite color, yellow, to brighten it up.

A shot of orange Lantana added a nice punch.
We had a couple of other projects to brighten this area, so stay tuned, we'll be back with more!

Looking good. Your orange Lantana is just gorgeous. Chris had the tiller running in former garden this weekend. It was 37 degrees out, but he was determined to start plotting his new garden and deer fencing.

Happy Monday!

What a beautiful way to add a sanctuary to your yard.

I can imagine sitting in the comfy chair, a frosty beverage,a good book and just watching the plants grow.

That does look easy to put together, with hubby working so much we might look at this kit to get things going this spring..off to check it out.

Sunni, you so inspire me to get off my butt and do something. I want to plant but up here the only thing we have right now is mud and slugs.

What a great idea!!! I'd like to have a more interesting comment but my brain has been overtaken by a cold.

That's one mean project! My gardening will, as usual, have to take place in pots, so all I can do is drool over your greenery. I hope your Mum will enjoy her little corner of paradise!

I've wanted to make a raised bed garden forever -- We move every 6-12 months but eventually we'll be staying put for 3 years (maybe by the summer!) and then I can hit you up for every gardening tip known to man =) hehe!

Oh yes, this is looking so beautiful! Great choices. I really like the pop of that mulch and the yellow flowers. I know nothing about gardening. I'm lucky the few low-maintenance shrubs we have are still alive.

Looks even more fabulous! I love lantana and it can definitely take the heat! I found myself looking through the newspapers you had laid down to block the weeds to make sure you didn't toss out the coupon insert! LOL, I clip every coupon I can get my hands on! Thanks, as always, for linking up!
