Snow Globe Cake Stand

"What's that? You're looking for some traditional Christmas craft ideas,
all in stunning shades of green and red?"
"Yeah, we didn't do any of that over here. We did some weird stuff. Try that blog over there.
What? No, it's a water pistol."
Anyway, we're going to do the Winter version of my little cake stand contraption.
Hit the Dollar Tree and gather the following:

Three semi-spherical bowls. Target also carries these for $1.49
Three little white porcelain houses
Small figures (my package had 3)
A small white tree
Foam block
White glue
A sharp knife
White stuffing or batting
White glitter
Primer
White spray paint
Goop
First, take these trashy looking skillfully hand painted figures outside.
This one looks like a holiday shoplifter.
Give them a good coat of primer, because there's no telling what they're made of,
then a coat of gloss white.
Meanwhile, determine how high you want your house to sit inside the glass sphere.
Cut the foam block with the knife and give it a light coating with the white spray paint and
allow everything to dry.
Glue the foam to the bottom of one of the bowls.
Glue batting or stuffing on top of the foam to cover.

Using generous amounts of glue, add the house, the tree, and one figure.

Start just drizzling white glue everywhere.
Sprinkle the glue with white crystal glitter.

Run a bead of Goop around the edge of the bowl...

...and invert a second bowl on top.

He looks a lot less sneaky now, huh?
Using Goop again, set the sphere on the third bowl, then place the plate on top. Allow everything to dry. Scrape any excess Goop off of the seams.

Have some fun with the dessert table.

Here's one for THANKSGIVING and one for HALLOWEEN!

  1. Very fun. I just might have to steal this idea. I've got some little glitter houses that might need a snow globe cake stand.

PS. I delivered on my promise. I spent the weekend organizing my craft room. A tour is now posted on my blog!
