 Pssssssssssst...time to stop hibernating!

 I know it's been a long winter, and you're sick of snow...

whatever that is.

 Wake up and come start Spring with us! We promise this is all stuff you can do no matter what the temperature is outside.

This last weekend was completely crazy, but a ton of fun. I cooked a huge Valentine's Day dinner for the family and some friends to pamper Chef Sam, and then he did the same on Sunday night for me.

In doing so, we went through a lot of scallions.

Do you like using those delicate little green onions?

We do too, but they aren't cheap, and their shelf life is ridiculously short.

Try growing your own next time you pick some up- for free!

Slice the root end off of your scallion, leaving an inch and a half. Stick the roots in dirt. Water. Done.

You can handle that, right?

And as you need them, just trim off the tops with kitchen shears. They'll come back fast.

How fast?

I planted these Saturday while we were cooking. The photo was taken Tuesday morning. That little shoot coming up the middle is all new growth.

These are enjoying the view from my kitchen window, so they should do just as fine on yours.

Especially if you're just dying to get your fingers in the dirt.

 This is just an art festival poster cut to fit a clearance frame that I already had, but doesn't the vibe make you want to samba with a margarita?

 

 And yes, that deliberate green wall is color matched to vibrant shades.

Simplest of all? A $5 pack of feather butterflies from the craft store on long wires that you can perch on almost anything.

  My mother, who was the curator of a butterfly garden, was ecstatic.

Just put complimentary colors together. Or if your house is not painted to resemble a kaleidoscope, use them as fun pops on your neutrals.

Then enjoy your subtle fling.
