Let's Pretend I Did a Gourd Pun Here

Our tale today begins with some tiny gourds from Dollar Tree in improbable shades of orange.
Several to a bag.
That's okay. We have the technology.
Plastic. Primer.
Then a few coats of gloss white.
I made THIS last year, when like three of you were brave enough to look.

Line with moss, set in a small hurricane, then splendidly white gourds.

Confession time: I was seduced by fall color in the form of these little acrylic vase filler acorns.

 I know, I know! But....they're so CUTE!!!
 Sprinkle liberally.
 Very liberally.
Add a candle. Light the dumb thing.
What was that? Did I just jump a shark?

Well, let's be honest: Thanksgiving is next, and my pumpkin tureen WILL see the light of day!
So we have lacy doily leaves and 20 blingtasic acorns left, eh?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

  1. You created a great fall display. I loved it when you added the acorns. They added just the right amount of subdued color. I always enjoy reading your posts.

  2. I love it and but ohhh how it makes me miss 'Family Dollar' and all the other cheap e deep e places we do have some places her like "Pound Land" (Pound as in money not weight) the somewhat equivalent of "Dollar Tree"
I will have to look and see if I can find the gourds I think I saw them the other day.
If you get a chance I would love for you to pop over to my blog and see the wicker box I just recently did up. I would love your input.
Oh and thanks for the answer to my question that you did not even know I asked "how do I paint on plastic so it holds the paint and the rest of the gunk I want to attach to it"

  4. Love it! That looks awesome. I also saw those wierd uber orange gourds, but didn't have the vision to see them in another color. We've been using the acorns and pumpkins as math manipulatives for homeschool. I thought they were cute too.

  5. Love it! I agree... those acorns are the perfect color, and they reflect the light, too! I need to jump on the white-pumpkiny-gourd-decor bandwagon - they always look so pretty! Now, where's my spray paint?

  11. Love it, love it, love it :) I was at Dollar Tree earlier and it took MAJOR self control to just get what I went in for. Our store was just exploding with all sorts of decorations, and my mind was buzzing with ideas. I think I have to stop blog stalking you for a bit, you're going to get me in trouble LOL Great Job!!

  12. Oh my God, I actually laughed at that last part! If you think this is bad, I want to warn you- most of my Christmas decorations burned up in the fire too!

  14. Gourd morning!
(I'll work on a better pun before Thanksgiving)
I love the acorns too, but unfortunately had "someone" with me and he wasn't as excited so they stayed at the store.
