The Tale of the Red Shoes

I had several emails asking if we really spray painted a pair of shoes.
Yeah, we did.
Take one pair of classic pumps from Goodwill and spray liberally with Lysol.
Stuff with newspaper.
No, wait, tape the inside with painter's tape first.
THEN stuff with newspaper! Tuck plastic food wrap around that.
NOT wrap for plastic food, by the way.
Using painter's tape, cover the soles carefully.
Once you have this, start shaking your can of Rustoleum Gloss Red.
Light coats please until you have the shine and coverage you desire.
Take your time.
And before you know it...
...you have the perfect shoes for your costume!
Not too shabby, eh?
I think I have Savannah addicted now.

  1. What's not to love about spray paint?!
Now shoes never crossed my mind - but why not?

  2. Why not indeed?

It sure doesn't come off of them if I get it on them accidentally.

  3. Wow, it's like totally new and different shoes!

I'm glad you stopped by to say 'hi.' The Bavarian Cream was good, but I never seem to mix in the cream at the right time. My mother's is always uniformly fluffy and pink. Mine is fluffy with bits of red Jell-O throughout, but it still tastes good, LOL!

  4. I am loving your blog and so glad that you stopped by mine so I could dicover yours. The blue mirror is gorgeous and with those cool floors in your bathroom, a remodel will look awesome! I will keep in mind that spray painting shoes is a possiblility if I need some Chartruse shoes one day!

  5. This reminds of making ruby slippers one year, pretty much the same technique but we added red glitter too.

I spray painted a dress once. It turned out great. Actually it was a Halloween costume for our oldest daughter who was the Corpse Bride for her work costume and for her wedding shower.

I have to share a link with you. I think you'll be suitable impressed with spray paint innovation: http://www.jennymatlock.com/Corpse%20Bride,%20Halloween%2005/Main.htm
