Easy Recycled Beverage Covers

So the pattern we've established in the evenings is simple: I get home, smooch the kids, kiss the hubster, spoil the dogs shamelessly, and then get Mom and myself a glass of wine and sit down and see what her day was like while Sam finishes getting dinner. The only thing that can put a damper on a scenario like that is a South Florida insect mistaking your beverage for a swimming pool.

I've seen projects for glass covers made of cotton with little beaded weights on the corners, but I wanted something a little easier to clean.

How about the lids from those sauce jars I keep making into solar lights?
You'll need lids, scraps of fabric, trim, and Mod Podge.
First, coat the lid and the sides of it with Mod Podge. Pleat the fabric over the lid and slather with Mod Podge. Is there a synonym for Mod Podge? I hate tutorials where you keep saying Mod Podge. Wrap the trim, in this case baby rick rack, just above the bottom of the lid and pull it tight. Pin it into place and coat it liberally with yet more of the MP.
It's important to have your beverage of choice waiting to test the product.
Once it's completely dry, just trim the fabric to fit!
Perfect!
And it matches the coasters we made a few weeks ago too.
Now, go through your recycling.
Because this is too easy not to try. And it matches the summer coasters you already made!
You did make those, right?

  7. there IS a generic name for Mod Podge- and of course now I can not remember it correctly. It is something Medium. (meaning process) Oh- you know I'll remember it as soon as I walk away.
Like glue medium or coating medium or glazing medium. Maybe it actually says ion the container?

  15. I love this idea! I often drink my morning coffee on my backyard deck and have had things fly in. I have used the newspaper as tent over over my cup but this looks so much prettier!

  32. Clever. Our insects in the Chicago area are lazy and pretty much leave our drinks alone.

I’m having a new link party “Cheap Thrills Thursday” starting the 29th. It’s for creative ideas that cost under $20. If you have a project you’d like to share, I’d love for you to stop by and join in!
