Okay,
the raised bed is nice, but it looked a little...stranded. Lost. Isolated.
You get the idea.
So we took the new kit that the nice folks at
Greenes Fence Company were kind enough to send us and added on to our original beds. With the parts we had left over from the last project and this one, we only needed 2 more boards to create a fourth bed.
Honestly, these kits assemble in minutes.
We then lined our beds with my favorite free weed blocker, old newspaper.
Just layer it about four or five sheets deep and wet it down thoroughly.
Add soil. We put our beds in a Z formation so that all of the plants were easily accessible.
We then took chunks of concrete that I had left from taking out an uneven walkway and surrounded the wooden structure with a large square.
More newspaper over the grass between the rocks and the beds...
...and then mulch over that.
Add decorative items and some slobber.
Along with veggies and herbs, we decided to add some flowers to brighten the area and make it a destination in the yard.
We chose my mother's favorite color, yellow, to brighten it up.
A shot of orange Lantana added a nice punch.
We had a couple of other projects to brighten this area, so stay tuned, we'll be back with more!
